FAQs
What is Lidding Film?
Lidding films are flexible, thin packaging materials that serve not only as a protective lid for food packaging, but as a preservation layer during storage and even cooking. They can be either peelable or permanent, and are versatile across a wide range of applications.
What types of lidding film are available?
Lidding films are available in a number of formats depending on the application. Peelable films allow easy consumer opening, resealable options maintain freshness after opening, and weld seal provides a permanent, secure closure. High-barrier, anti-fog, and ovenable and microwaveable variants are also available. Our team can help identify the right solution for your needs.
What tray and substrate types are your lidding films compatible with?
Our lidding films are compatible with the full range of tray and substrate types commonly used in food packaging, including APET, CPET, PP, PE, smoothwall aluminium foil, and board-based trays. If you have a specific tray or substrate requirement, our technical team can advise on the most suitable film specification.
What barrier properties do your lidding films offer?
Our lidding films are available with a range of barrier properties to suit different shelf life and storage requirements. High-barrier options provide protection against oxygen, moisture and CO2 ingress, helping to extend shelf life and preserve product quality. Barrier performance can be enhanced through metallisation or aluminium oxide coating, and our technical team can advise on the right specification for your product and packaging line.
Are your lidding films suitable for ovenable or microwaveable applications?
Yes. Our range includes films suitable for both conventional oven and microwave applications, tested to perform at the required temperatures. Speak to our team about your specific requirements.
Can your lidding films be printed?
Yes. Our lidding films can be supplied print-ready, allowing brands to add logos, product information and other artwork directly to the packaging. Speak to our team about print specifications and options.
Are your lidding films recyclable?
The recyclability of a lidding film depends on its construction and the tray material it is used with. Mono-material films, where the lid and tray are the same material, offer the clearest route to recyclability and can be classified as ‘Recycle’ by OPRL. Additional barrier layers or laminate structures, while improving performance, can affect recyclability. Speak to our team about the recyclability profile of specific film constructions.
Can lidding films be produced to bespoke specifications?
Yes. Our lidding films can be tailored to specific requirements, including micron thickness, barrier levels, peel strength and laminate structure. Speak to our technical team about your requirements and we will develop a solution to suit.
